Quick last post before my hard disc is formatted and before I leave for my trip!
As most of the movie going world knows by now, Slumdog Millionaire has won 8 oscars. That’s right, EIGHT. That is quite an achievement.
For those living under a rock, it is about a poor Indian teen who lived all his life in a slum winning the “Who Want’s to be a millionaire” equivalent show and hence winning a million rupees.
So the movies is related quite a bit to India. Okay, it is entirely in India. However, the director and most of the crew of the movie is not Indian; the actors all are.
Among the eight oscars, 3 were won by Indians – AR Rahman, Gulzar (Shared wiuth Rahman) and Resul Pookutty. They won for Original Score, Original Song and Sound mixing respectively. However, none of the actors were nominated for any of the awards and so obviously, none won. The director was not Indian, the movie itself is classified as British. So how is this a win for India as it is being claimed by all most news channels?
I have nothing against the winners from India. But that does make it a win for India. An Indian win would be for a movie directed by an Indian (No, M. Night Shyamalan does not count or any of the other NRI or directors of Indian origin. Shekhar Kapoor does though :P ) or made by an Indian company.
Please folks, cut out the hype. It is NOT an Indian movie, it is not a win for India.
Some people are going to go watch The Dark Knight at 3 AM in the morning. Not me cos I just finished watching it. :D
My thoughts on The Dark Knight below (Warning: Definite spoilers)
Watch Guru. It’s brilliant. Period!
Might review but I doubt I can do it justice.
Ps. The title means: “I don’t fear the Public, I am the Public”
Watched V for Vendetta, the movie, today. Excellent movie. Very well filmed and directed but most of all, it sticks religiously to the original Comic Book by the same name and written by the Great Comic Book Writer Alan Moore. Yes some parts have been changed for requirements of commercialization of the movie but it is largely the same. Really liked the movie. And of course, I do like the dialogue delivery and speech mannerism of Hugo Weaving who playes the title character. He is brilliantly supported by Natalie Portman who is extremely beautiful.
Ps. Since today is 1st of April, when the plan was made, I was a bit hesitant thinking that my friends might be playing a prank on me regarding the movie plan ;) Thankfully it was not so.
Pps. Rather disappointed that I did not get a chance to play any prank on anyone being that I am slightly on the prankster side :(
Hilarious observation by Chandrahasa. (This for straight people only :P)
Q. What is worse than a guy calling you after watching Brokeback Mountain saying he liked it?
A. Him saying he remembered you while watching the movie and hence called you!
:D
This is the latest Bond Girl. A 25 year old French Actress who will accompany Daniel Craig in the latest movie from the James Bond Franchise titled Casino Royale.
Though this image is quite flattering, I do not really consider her of the class of Denise Richards :-D And Sophie Marceu or Halle Berry.
As a matter of fact, I much more preferred Pierce Brosnan over Daniel Craig. Regardless, the best always was and will be Sean Connery :-)
Thanks to People Magazine for the original article
I finally got to watch Doom – The movie. And I liked the movie. The movie, surprisingly is pretty good at what it aims for. An emulation of the super hit game Doom. Maybe I liked it cos it was far better than some of the previous “video game” based movies I have watched (Mortal Kombat Annihilation, Final Fantasy)
Refreshingly, this movie is much better. It is an all out action movie full of blood and gore. No real acting required but due to it being fast paced, it kept me hooked.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays the lead actor, Sarge, a CO of a group of Marines who are ordered to investigate a remote research facility, where something has gone wrong. As they move into the go deeper into the investigation, they discover something far more evil, more dangerous than they imagined.
He is assisted by Karl Urban, and the rest of the marine team known as the Rapid Response Tactical Squad (RRTS). The beauty factor is provided by the cute Rosamund Pike.
The best part of the movie is towards the end when Karl Urban goes around the facility to kill the evil monsters and it is shown from Urban’s eyes just like how it would be when playing a FPS game.
The CGI in the movie is pretty good and over all, I would give it a 7/10 for a good watch.
