Everything that I hate and can crib about ;-)
Ok, today has been one of those bad days which people wish would not happen. It started right in the morning when I was late for work because it was pouring heavily. I hate rain, period.
As I get in and login to my system, it would not connect to the network. I started up the browser and found that it all it’s buttons, for some reason had disappeared. So I tried to logout, and it would not log me out but instead froze the machine. Great!
Well it finally happened. What was being resisted for long by the government and being postponed for quite sometime has happened. The price of petrol (Gasoline for those of you from the US :-P ) and diesel has been increased. In Bangalore, where I live, it is now INR 50.30 per litre of petrol. That would be more than $1 per litre.
Now I know it was inevitable but this is becoming insanely expensive. And to beat, I ride a bike which gives a much better mileage than cars. Recently a few cartoons have been doing the rounds on the internet where they mock the rise in fuel costs showing ppl taking loans to purchase a tank of fuel and the like. I used to laugh at ’em thinking what doomsday preachers. But it seems they were right for a change. At the rate the prices are increasing, it might soon become a reality.
And with no real mass market of alternate fuel vehicles, I am really unsure what the future holds in terms of transportation means. :-(
I was pissed yesterday. The blog database, which is intrinsic to the blog was not accessible for whole of yesterday (my time).
I get up yesterday morning and access the site and I am given a nice little error page by WordPress which states that the database is not accessible and I should check my username and password.
I contact the hosting service (Symonds.net) who replies that they have changed the server and that DNS changes take time to propagate. Bah.. He said things should be fine in about 2 hrs. I waited. And I waited some more while the blog was still not accessible.
I shot off a mail again and he replies that it’s *my* ISP’s fault since they are not flushing their DNS cache and updating them.
So I waited. Then it struck me that the god darn server was accessible but only the database was not which would be local for the blog and hence DNS issues dont even come into the picture.
I immediately sent him a mail telling this and he realised it about the same time too. So he manually went into the server and fixed the issue. It seems the DB package was broken after the upgrade in which some DB authentication always failed. Humph.. So much for DNS trouble.
I got wet again today. It’s very frustrating. Just due to the rain, I am seriously considering ditching my bike and using some other means of transport
I think I am coming down with a cold. Scratch that. I _am_ down with a cold. My nose is getting blocked by the minute and my body is paining.
And my comp is being difficult. I wont boot my profile correctly all the time. It just freezes sometimes when I select my profile and I have to do a cold boot to start up windoze again.
I think I will go to sleep early today
Do not ride your bike in the rain. It can be quite dangerous.
Well, most of you might say, “Duh!! What’s new about that?”
There is nothing new about it but only that I rode my bike all the way from office to home, 17 kms in the rain. And it was bad. I could barely see due to the prismatic effect caused by the water on my helmet visor and the light from the oncoming vehicles. And my bike chose today to behave weird. I was having a tough time controlling the bike. At one point of time, while I braked for a speed breaker, the back tire went one way and the front tire the other way. Brr.. Scary, especially with other vehicles right behind you.
Anyways, I reached home safely though very cold and wet to the bone, my shoes full of water, my pants dripping wet and me exteremly tired and hungry.
Though now I am full having had my dinner :-D
I am pissed. Though not sure who to be pissed at. Thunderbird (My email client), Gmail, or my ISP. It’s been 3 days since I started having email problems. I use only pop3 email accounts cos I hate web-mail.
