College Fest
We had the college fest today. It started of quite well in my view. Decent crowd, a local RJ, Darius to judge some events and the usual bustle associated with a fest. I headed directly for the comp labs where the Gaming event, my favorite ;-) was to be held. The set up was not complete as the games for the event were framing a bit. I helped for a bit, not really interested much in it tho since I was the one who had organised it earlier and wanted to let this year’s organiser, Vinod, a friend of mine do it himself. But I did tell him some ways to improve the performance and then soon left to check out the other events and happenings.
A mini Disaster
Last night was a bad one. It had rained earlier in the evening and in India, power cuts and rain come side by side. So as usual, late in the night, the power failed. But unfotunately for a family which lives on the floor above ours, they got stuck inside the elevator which stopped between the floors. And the worst part is that they had a small kid with them in the darkness which made the situation even more worse.
They sounded the alarm which I heard but did not respond to since the alarm has a history of souding without a cause. But I got a little alarmed when he banged the elevator entrance and I realized it was not a false alarm but an actual emergency. I tried opening the door by force but the damn thing wouldn’t open. Then I ran to the security and got them to get the manual opener and force the door open.
Man that was a bad situation for the family and they were very relieved to be out. I hope the management does something about the backup power. :-(
Me vs Girls
I have had it with girls. This time it is them who do not seem to understand me. Well its like this. I am a guy who usually pulls his friends legs, irrespective of who it is. But I also usually make it a point that I tell ppl that I am usually joking unless I explicitly say I am serious.
Now recently I was on chat with a girl over IM and was just joking as usual. I even made it a point that I used all sorts of smileys to ensure it conveys I was joking. It seems she still took offence and has been frosty since.
And this is not the first time. Makes me think that it must be me who is doing something wrong. Well I am just about ready to dump it all and block all the girls over IM. And I have taken a new resolution to never try and be funny with girls again if it makes any difference to anyone reading this :-(
Yippeee
My mom who had been out of station for the past month is finally back. Yippee.. I missed her :-)
The house will be more welcoming now that she is back.
Guys vs Girls
One thing that I have noticed with a lot of girls whom I know and have spoken to over the phone or chatted over IM is that they all use a common phrase “so what else” to continue a conversation. Personally I find this phrase very very irritating. It almost makes me want to clam up. My reasoning is this – If I have something else to tell I will say it out. Do not try to continue the conversation by saying that.
Now guys, it is different. If two guys are speaking or chatting, it is limited to how much is to be spoken or conveyed and once done will be the end of the conversation. Both will go silent or disconnect as the case may be. It is such a simple scheme and easy to manage. With girls you would have come up with filler conversation so as not to seem rude.
Another of life’s little mysteries :-D
Paaaarrrrrty
Weeeelll Today was something…
Had a test for which, as usual I had not studied. Tried to study in the morning an hour before the test but was not in the mood to. Almost ditched it but wrote it just for the heck of having gone all the way till college. Well it turned out to be better than I expected. Could answer the required 5 questions and managed to get the marks I wanted( which is max ;-) )
After that had a birthday party. A friend of Mine.. Happy B’day Ash :-)
Had gone to Pizza hut. Lots of fun, food and jokes. Good time. Only thing is that it prolly was the last time that we would be going out as a group as all of us will soon be graduating and going our own ways.
Oh.. well lets see what happens in the future.
Company Annual day
Well today was the 1st anniversary of the company where I am doing my project – UGSI. There was celebrations and cultural programs(Dancing and singing), dart, face painting, caricature making … The usual routine. It was also the launch of the e-zine of the company’s software development group which was developed by us. And I must admit, it was no small task getting it completed with all the various inputs and objections. But we did it. Finally!
And today was the launch. It was the first event. Then there was a video presentation of the launching of UGSI and how it came to be what it is now. Then there was a few dance programs by kids of the various staff there.
There was also a music performance by the inhouse band who call themselves the “96 hours”. The name cos the band was formed 3 days back(96 hrs) and so on..
We also had a surprise waiting for us in the function in the form of a gift voucher from Landmark for our effort put in the e-zine. It was totally unexpected but then real nice as well. I did not stay long in the function as Dad was alone and so left early.
Nice day on the whole though :-)
Computer-less
I am without a computer… That makes me positively depressed.
The SMPS in my computer has burnt out. It is the 3rd time this is happening :-(
I suspect it is the motherboard but the technician says it is a SMPS problem. Thankfully, the last 2 burn outs are covered by warranty ;-)
Hmm… I want to replace the entire motherboard and the processor but my dad won’t sponsor. Guess I will have to plod along with the ancient junk :-(
