Change in Hosting

Moved my domain from Dreamhost to Hawkhost. Will be some downtime while the DNS propagation goes through.

Dreamhost had been giving me problems with email, most commonly with Webmail. Also the site faced a fair amount of downtime. Hence the switch. Let’s see how’s Hawkhost

It’s been a while

So… I’ve been off the blog for quite a while now. Travel, work and other stuff have kept me away along with a general sense of lethargy related to blogging.

However, I’m trying to get rid of it, re-prioritize my activities and try and do stuff which I enjoy.

Anyway, a belated happy new year. I’ve been on two trips the past 3 month, and two more in the next 4 months. But none of them “travel trips” which is what I want to do. Swetha (who btw, got a Canon Rebel XSi, the 450D) mentioned that I have not mentioned my cam. Well mid-last year, I got a DSLR, a Canon 40D. It is an awesome cam, amazing features and amazing picture quality.
(Du..uh.. Of course it is, that’s why I purchased it ;))

Work wise, it’s been boring and frustrating past couple of months. Project mostly at a standstill and progress is sluggish if any. Almost like déjà vu.

My thoughts for 2009:
I think this will be a good year for me. I have positive feelings and expectations from the year. I expect a lot of changes in my life this year, mostly good ones. Hopefully ;)

I’m also participating in the development for a game that I’ve been playing for quite a while (Battlemaster), which is fun..

Well I had move to say but then I forgot.. Sigh..

Footnote: It took me about 1+ week to write this. As I said, had more to say but I forgot. Shit

The Lifecycle of Blog post

A very interesting web/flowchart of the data flow and gathering when you publish a blog post. Though the depiction is mainly for hosted blogs (wordpress.com, blogspot etc) it remains true for self-hosted blogs too.

The entire flow chart is from the social interaction perspective of readers, marketers, spam scrapers etc reading your content and the chain reaction it starts.

Just like the chain reaction I am starting with this :)

Neglected

My blog feels neglected. And not without reason. I’ve barely posted recently. Though there has been a lot to write.

A combination of work, mental imbalance and guilt of not working on my applications has kept me away from typing out anything. Also, I want to make a lot more private posts to put my thoughts into words, but only for myself.

The blog itself is also neglected since the theme is fairly old and I’ve not changed it for a while. No idea if any of my plugins have been updated nor have I upgraded wordpress itself (though  this is partly because I am thinking of moving over to Habari. If only Habari were a little more stable. But I digress)
But the guilt of my apps does not let me. Once the apps are done….

WTH

Something is wrong with the blog.. The CSS and various javascript files are not being served by the server even though they appear to be present in the themes folder. And since there is no SSH or ftp access to my server, I cannot even check until I return home..

Gaah

New Year – New look

I try to update the look of my blog fairly regularly (atleast more than my posting :D ). So with the new year, I decided that I needed a new theme, a new look for my blog AND a new name (the first change in my 4 years of blogging).

I’ve always thought that Red contrasts very well with both White and Black. So this time I was looking for a theme with atleast a splash of red. But what I found exceeded my expectations. Based on the wildly popular Hemingway theme, I now present Dawn. A stunning red and black theme by Milo and some beautiful and original artwork by Milo.

I have modified the theme to suit my needs and to show my Zooomr photos and also to fix a couple of bugs which Milo very patiently went through with me to correct. I am extremely grateful for her help.

And yes, I know that the new year was over a month ago but it was not long ago that I found the theme I really liked enough to switch. So here it is :)

Quickie Update

I’ve been extremely busy over the past few weeks. Work, GMAT preparations and other projects. Even study time is quite less and I plan to take a break from work to concentrate on it. And I’m finding it extremely difficult to find time to blog even though I do have a couple of ideas.
One of them is a series of posts about preparing for GMAT and what mistakes I made. Well I guess it’ll have to wait until my GMAT and TOEFL are over. For now, another period of silence ensues :(

Blog Redesign

I’ve been working on a redesign, a new theme for my blog for a couple of days now. It’s a nice dark and green theme based on the Foliage Mod by 5thirtyone designs. Though it’s mostly the same as the original, I’ve made a few changes and modifications, a few color changes etc.

The theme uses Ajax heavily with a shelf on top. While I’m enabling it, it is still a work in modification and changes.. So please bear with me and do tell me how it looks.

Any suggestions and critiques are always welcome :)
